Project 1711 – 9 ½” James Hardie® Primed Artisan Square Channel Siding with Metal Corners | VaproShield® Peel & Stick WRB + Rainscreen System | National Award-Winning Waterfront Project – San Juan Islands
Alpine Exteriors proudly completed this high-performance, architecturally driven exterior system perched on a cliffside along the San Juan Islands — featuring 9 ½” James Hardie® Artisan Square Channel Siding, detailed metal corners, a VaproShield® peel-and-stick WRB, and a full rainscreen wall system designed for extreme coastal durability.
🏆 Project 1711 earned Alpine Exteriors the 2025 James Hardie® National Award for “Best Artisan Project in the United States” — making us the only company in Washington State to ever receive this top national honor. The project has been featured on James Hardie’s official Instagram channel and is now showcased on their national website as the standard of excellence for Artisan installations.
The original structure had deteriorating shiplap cedar siding, which failed under years of salt air exposure, rain-driven winds, and direct marine impact. Once removed, our team installed a full VaproShield® self-adhered WRB, which acts as a breathable yet watertight barrier — critical for homes located in harsh marine zones.
To protect the structure and elevate the design, we installed a complete rainscreen assembly, creating an air gap between the siding and sheathing for superior drainage and ventilation. The Artisan Square Channel siding, with its deep reveals and precision lines, was paired with custom metal corners, delivering a sleek, clean finish that highlights modern coastal architecture.

⚠️ Extreme locations require extreme preparation. Without proper weatherproofing, standard siding systems fail quickly. Alpine Exteriors delivers engineered, code-compliant exterior envelopes that protect your investment — especially when your home is built on the edge.

⚠️ Homeowners beware: siding failures and paint peeling are guaranteed when hiring underqualified crews or using generic fiber cement knock-offs. Don’t gamble with your largest investment. Poor installations can cost tens of thousands in future damage, rot, mold remediation, and resale value loss.
✔️ We’re committed to craftsmanship, code compliance, and warranties you can count on.
