This Whatcom County exterior remodel was a critical siding replacement project — removing old, failing LP (Louisiana-Pacific) wood composite siding, a product that was subject to a major class action lawsuit in the 1990s due to widespread moisture damage, warping, and premature failure.
At Alpine Exteriors, we’ve replaced hundreds of LP siding-clad homes throughout Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, and across Whatcom County. That was the case here — the old LP siding had severely deteriorated, causing moisture intrusion, delamination, and structural rot in multiple wall sections.
We fully removed the compromised cladding, performed all necessary rot repairs and reframing, and installed James Hardie® 8 ¼” Cedarmill Primed Lap Siding. This system was paired with primed white 5/4×4 trim, 5/4×8 belly bands, and finished with Sherwin-Williams® Resilience® exterior paint, giving the home a sharp, high-end finish engineered for long-term weather protection in our damp climate.
We also replaced the outdated, inefficient windows and doors with Milgard® premium vinyl units, providing a major boost in energy efficiency, noise reduction, and interior comfort.

Our old LP Siding was going bad, and we needed our house re-sided and then painted. For us, and probably for most folks, this was a huge decision and expense, and caused a lot of worry. We talked to 3 siding contractors; and researched and considered a few more. Alpine Siding offered the best combination of experience, good reviews/references, and price/value. Plus, they were local. Alpine provided references, gave us a list of their completed jobs to check out, and gave us the opportunity to visit a current job site to talk to the homeowners. Alpine worked with us so that we could qualify for their best discount. They also included in the basic job what other contractors with higher estimates only included as an additional charge. They had a clear statement of work and stuck to their estimates. Alpine gave us information, an estimate, answered our questions, and then backed-off to let us decide. Another contractor just wouldn’t take “no” for an answer and kept calling to make new “final offers”. We’re glad we picked Alpine. We enjoyed working with Andrey, the Alpine project manager. Throughout the project, Andrey worked to answer our questions and resolve any issues. The siding and painting crews worked hard, completed their onsite work faster than we expected, and made sure we were satisfied before leaving. The results are great. The new siding will last our lifetime, but if we needed siding again, we’d use Alpine.
